As part of Toyota’s commitment to quality and safety, Toyota is expanding these recalls involving certain Takata airbag inflators in Toyota.

At Toyota, the safety of our customers is our number one priority, which is why we continually monitor the performance of our vehicles through a number of sources. If we become aware of a certain component or aspect of our vehicles that doesn’t meet our strict standards we will take appropriate action, as we have done in this instance.

Has my car been affected by the Hybrid recall?

The recently announced recall (05.10.2018) is for certain Toyota Prius; Prius + and Auris Hybrid vehicles produced between October 2008 and November 2014.
The recall is related to a software issue that in rare circumstances could see the vehicle not entering a failsafe driving mode, which could see it lose power and stall. There are a number of UK vehicles involved but only in the date range below.

Model Name Production Period

AURIS HV 26 May 2010 – 9 May 2014
PRIUS 10 October 2008 – 5 February 2014
PRIUS + 19 October 2011 – 10 November 2014

Please go to the Recall Checker or contact your local Toyota dealer to confirm if your vehicle is affected.

The vehicles involved in Europe

The vehicles involved for Europe are the Toyota RAV4, Yaris, Hilux, Corolla, Picnic, Avensis, Verso, Auris produced between May 2000 to November 2001 and April 2006 to December 2014 for the airbag inflator.

How we are supporting our customers

Customers will be contacted by each national distributor in the countries. Airbag inflator replacement will be performed at no charge to customers.

You will be able to check if your vehicle is involved in these recalls on this page.

In the meantime if you have any questions please contact your national distributor or alternatively please contact your local Toyota dealer.

The reasons for these recalls

In the involved vehicles a safety defect may arise in certain Takata air bag inflators due to inflator propellant degradation occurring after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.  This may result in an inflator rupture when the air bag deploys
