Disclaimer: The Takata VIN-checker does not store or record any data, including any photographs or the entered VIN number. It simply checks whether a vehicle is subject to an outstanding Takata airbag recall, based on the global VIN list.
When scanning your VIN, click the highlighted blue box containing the VIN number and check it correctly recorded in the search box.
If the result is green, the vehicle has either already been repaired or is not affected by the Takata airbag recall.
If the result is red, one or both front Takata airbags should be replaced immediately.
In most modern Toyotas, you can find your VIN number on the dashboard, near the windshield on the driver's side. It may also be found on the driver's side door jamb or within the engine bay.
For specific guidance, refer to your owner's manual or visit Find Your Toyota VIN (Opens in new window) for more information.
The affected vehicles are equipped with Takata driver/and or passenger airbag(s) that contain a PSAN (phase-stabilised ammonium nitrate) gas generator without desiccant. According to Takata’s reports, a vehicle safety-related defect can occur in the airbags due to degradation of the gas generator (the airbag’s propulsion product) in the event of an accident.
What is the inflation device?
The inflation device is located within the airbag. It contains a solid gas generator (the airbag propulsion product) that ignites if an airbag deployment is required. When ignited, the fuel expands into an inert gas, inflating the airbag.
Only vehicles equipped with Takata driver and/or passenger airbag(s) that contain a PSAN (stabilised phase ammonium nitrate) gas generator without desiccant or of the Takata NADI type installed between 1997 and mid-1999 are concerned. We invite you to check if your vehicle appears in the VIN checker (Opens in new window) which lists all the vehicles concerned*. If your vehicles does not appear on it, your vehicle is not affected.

The campaign specifically targets certain types of Takata inflators (including desiccant-free ammonium nitrate inflators). Not all airbags are concerned, but identification by manufacture/VIN remains mandatory.
You should not assume your vehicle is unaffected/repaired. Please take immediate action to check your vehicle remains safe to drive.
