How do hybrid cars work?

Toyota hybrids combine a combustion engine and electric power. The battery and one or more electric motors boost performance while also working as a generator to turn surplus energy into electrical charge, reducing fuel consumption. The result is a smooth and efficient driving experience.

Refuelling

Fill the tank with petrol at the pump as normal.

Electric driving

The battery powers one or more electric motors, turning the wheels and driving the vehicle forward.

Conventional driving

The combustion engine boosts power and range over long distances while also charging the battery.

Regenerative braking

When you brake and the vehicle decelerates, energy that would usually be lost during this process is used to top up the battery.

 If you are not quite ready to make the move to a plug-in hybrid or full electric vehicle yet, a Toyota Hybrid can be a fantastic choice for you.

As part of a Toyota Hybrid Service, your vehicle’s hybrid system and hybrid battery will be checked by Toyota technicians to ensure it is in top condition.

 

Having this carried out annually will mean your Toyota is eligible for a further 1 year/10,000 miles (whichever is soonest) of Hybrid Battery Extended Cover, up to a total of 15 years.

As with most cars, a Toyota hybrid should be serviced every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes sooner.
