A recall is a campaign instigated (usually by the manufacturer) to address a potential concern about the safety of a product. All sorts of products can be recalled, such as food, toys, electrical goods and tools. Every year, millions of cars are recalled by many manufacturers for all kinds of reasons. Toyota is no exception.

You can find out by using the Toyota Recall Checker here. All you need is your vehicle registration number or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Your vehicle’s VIN will be printed on your vehicle’s log book. You can also find it on your car – the VIN plate is typically located in the engine compartment but may also be located elsewhere.

They may get in touch, but usually Toyota head office will contact you directly about the recall, either by letter, telephone or email.

We are governed by the DVSA code of practice and are required to inform customers when a recall affects their vehicle. Customer details are shared with us by the DVLA and we are authorised to use this information to contact customers if their vehicle falls under a recall campaign.

Vehicles affected by safety recalls rarely need to stop being driven. If Toyota needs to advise you to stop driving your vehicle, we will contact you directly to say so.

No. Any work carried out as part of a recall is free of charge.

This depends on the model and nature of the recall. Your Toyota dealer will let you know about the timings for the work on your vehicle. If unforeseen circumstances arise, the modification may take longer than planned, but your Toyota dealer will keep you informed if this happens.

Yes you can, but you must inform the new owner that the vehicle is subject to an outstanding recall.
