Everyone's needs are different. That's why Hilux is available with a choice of three body styles, two engine options and three different grades, ensuring there is a Hilux available that fits the job you need it for.
Hilux's strength lies in rock-solid ladder chassis and its TOP platform. These rigid and incredibly strong features provide the foundation for Hilux's reliability and durability, enhanced by anti-corrosion panels and a rust-resistant body.
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) prevents your wheels from locking when braking, and the Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) evenly spreads the load, helping you maintain control.
If you attempt an emergency stop, Brake Assist (BA) will detect this and instantly apply additional brake pressure, enabling ABS to work to its maximum potential and bring you to a stop more quickly.
Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) automatically activates each individual brake as needed and controls engine output to help maintain stability and prevent skidding when turning sharply or cornering on slippery road surfaces.
High clearance and a robust suspension means the Hilux is adaptable and makes light work of riverbeds, dunes and streams.
When conditions change, intelligent Automatic Disconnecting Differential (ADD) enables easy, in motion switching between 4WD and 2WD, with 2WD offering a greater fuel efficiency and reduced noise.
Hilux is built for action with its legendary carrying capacity and ultimate towing performance. The Hilux can haul up to 1,060 kg or pull up to 2,800kg making it one of the highest performing pick-ups on the market.
For over 46 years we have been perfecting the Hilux. Tested in extreme conditions and guided by Toyota's long-standing dedication to quality, the supreme off-road abilities of Hilux should come as no surprise.
Built to last
The success story began in 1968. Since then, over 13 million Hilux have blazed trails worldwide, from the arctic tundra to sand deserts of the Sahara. Climbing, wading and traversing the toughest landscapes, the unbreakable Hilux is without equal. Feel right at home even in the world's most extreme environments with the versatile Hilux.
The 2008 Hilux made improvements based on customer feedback, and was gifted with greater road presence, interior space, and load capacity. It was put to numerous tests from the BBC Top Gear team's challenges, ranging from reaching the North Magnetic Pole, to climbing erupting volcanoes in Iceland.
Toyota's sixth-generation Hilux pick-up range was introduced in Japan in September 1997 and was easily distinguishable by a swage line that gently tapered downwards toward the front indicators. The introduction of 'Hilux Invincible' saw the range immortalised after the BBC Top Gear team famously failed in their attempts to destroy one.
The new fifth-generation N50 chassis Hilux was introduced in September 1988. It represented many visual and physical improvements over the outgoing version, but was still built to the three core concepts of power, sturdiness and comfort.
The fourth-generation N40 chassis Hilux was released in November 1983. Single- and double-cab versions were available from launch, including a new raised-bed model with three bottom-hinged sides.
Versatility was the watchword for the third-generation N30 series Hilux that went on sale in September 1978. It was designed to offer saloon-like specification and ride comfort, which led to an evolution of the predecessor’s double wishbone front suspension that replaced the coil springs for a torsion bar.
The second-generation Hilux, launched in May 1972 for the 1973 model year, marked the model's introduction to the UK market. Essentially a reworked version of its predecessor, the N20 series featured an updated body with extended wheelbases and refined interior.
The Hilux (a contraction of 'high' and 'luxury') arrived in Toyota dealerships in Japan in March 1968. It adopted a separate frame construction with a double wishbone/coil spring front suspension and rigid axle/leaf spring rear suspension.
