More than 300 Toyota Prius models are heading for the Big Apple, following the signing of a new deal with the city and state of New York. The deal, the largest of its type so far signed by the company, will see 231 of the environmentallyfriendly petrolelectric hybrid cars being used by a number of the citys municipal agencies, including the departments of health and transportation. A further 56 will be used by the state for route planning and support operations, while the state of New Jersey is purchasing 33 vehicles for use by the State Central Motor Pool and the Port Authority. Lawrence G. Reuter, the president of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority NYC Transit, said: "It is our goal to make our fleet of buses and support vehicles the cleanest, most efficient big-city fleet in the world."
