When the Prius first appeared in Japan in 1997, there was an inevitable trade-off between the battery and space. But with each new version, the battery has become lighter and smaller, with an increased capacity, giving you more space.

Next year, the new seven-seat Prius+, as well as the Prius Plug-in Hybrid, will use lithium-ion batteries in place of today's nickel-metal hydride technology. These batteries are slimmer but more powerful, which means there's more space for you, your family and all your gear.
